======================================================================
Compared to the last report, demand is moderate on all types of hay,
producers say demand is slightly higher for small bales than it is for
big squares, a few more producers sold out of hay this week.
Small bale producers are keeping just enough hay to keep their regular
horse customers supplied.
Some are worried about the light snowpack and wondering what that is
going to do to this years hay crop.
This last couple of weeks was warm all over Oregon and that caused some
snow melt which brought the snowpack to 0% in some areas.
Higher fuel prices have slowed down the presses movement which has slowed
down them buying hay from Oregon.
The supply around Oregon is going down compared to past years at this
time even though demand is lower than normal.
According to the U.S.
Drought Monitor, moderate to severe drought indicated in northeast Oregon,
the rest of Oregon is being labelled as having abnormally dry to
no drought indication.
According to the NRCS, Oregon snowpack is:
Willamette, Rogue Umpqua ranges are 11% of median, Klamath region is 6%
of median, Lake County region is 14% of median, Upper Deschutes Crooked,
Hood Sandy Lower Deschutes ranges are 10%-25% of median, John Day is 3.
